Work History
Magda Boulay is a licensed physical therapist in the state of California. She obtained her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Samuel Merritt University in 2005, and also holds a Bachelor of Science in Physiology from the University of California at Davis. In December of 2015, Magda passed a STOTT PILATES Level 1 (Essential & Intermediate) certification for all STOTT PILATES equipment, after participating in STOTT PILATES study & coursework for approximately 1 year. While developing her Pilates skills, Magda worked at Blue Sparrow Pilates, a well-known STOTT PILATES teacher training center. Magda is an experienced physical therapist who has worked in a variety of physical therapy clinic settings. Some of the clinics Magda has worked for in the past include larger groups such as Sutter Medical Foundation, Physiotherapy Associates, and a 6-month internship for Kaiser. She has also worked in an inpatient hospital environment at the University of Utah Rehabilitation Services, and a smaller private outpatient clinic, among others. She also continues to pursue lifelong learning, continuing to add to a very long list of continuing education courses.
Magda’s Path to physical therapy & pilates
Magda became a physical therapist after pursuing her childhood dream of becoming a “doctor”. As a child, Magda always wanted to help others. Sometimes when she would play, she would run after children on bicycles holding her toy medical pack, and then she would pretend to give them essential care when needed. After becoming an adult and pursuing her study of Physiology at UC Davis, Magda realized she did not want to become a medical doctor, but she wanted to be someone who would have more physical contact and time with patients/clients, and someone who could provide people with more natural, conservative, and preventative treatments and measures. Physical Therapy and Pilates were her destiny.
Magda’s Values
As a physical therapist, Magda has a love for working with all types of people and conditions. She particularly enjoys using manual therapy skills when it is needed to help jumpstart individuals to speed recovery, decrease pain, and aid in healing processes. Throughout her years as a therapist, Magda has been a firm believer in trying to find the “root cause(s)” of a dysfunction, and not just treat a person’s resulting symptoms. Magda understands that for many physical conditions and dysfunction, improving one’s posture and developing strong core strength and stability in specific body regions is essential in attaining a true, and long-lasting recovery, and it is also critical in maintaining a strong physical stature to prevent future injuries. This is how Magda’s interest in Pilates started, and why she pursued an additional extensive training program such as STOTT PILATES.
By starting P.ilaT.es – Physical Therapy and Pilates, Magda hopes to create a synergy with her skills, both as a Doctor of Physical Therapy, and as a Certified STOTT Pilates Instructor, into one integrated client service which can offer both physical therapy rehabilitation services for those who have injuries or dysfunction, or also offer more preventative health and wellness services, using Pilates exercise as a tool for those who want to stay healthy and prevent injury.
As a cash-based, small business, Magda hopes to use her talents at P.ilaT.es to provide a unique experience for clients which is more accessible, higher in quality, and allows for heart-felt care, one-on-one to every individual client, rather than that given at a traditional physical therapy clinics, which are also subject to the stringent demands insurance companies, and that of our traditional fast-paced medical system in the U.S. It is also very satisfying to Magda that she can combine her extensive knowledge of the human anatomy, biomechanics, and dysfunction, and her love for people, to provide a targeted and appropriate fitness regimen using Pilates exercise for each client’s unique physical needs.
Magda’s interests
When not working, exercising, and practicing Pilates, Magda enjoys spending time with her husband and her two young boys, who are lucky to be both French and American. Magda and her husband also enjoy renovating their home, helping out at their children’s school, enjoying good company, food and wine, traveling, and celebrating the arts and entertainment world.
